Prickly on the outside, sweet on the inside. This is the fruit of the nopal plant. An edible fruit with a sweet flavor similar to melon that belongs to the cactus family and although it is native to Mexico, its cultivation has spread to tropical or temperate areas such as Brazil, Chile, North Africa and the Mediterranean basin.
It is very rich in essential fatty acids, approximately 70% linoleic acid and 10% oleic acid or omega 9, 10% palmitic acid and 5% stearic acid. It also contains phytosterols, vitamin C and A and betalains that give it antioxidant properties.
