Titanium dioxide
What is it?
Titanium dioxide is a mineral filter, or also called a physical filter commonly used in sunscreens .
How does it work?
It works by creating a protective layer on the surface of the skin, thus preventing rays from hitting the skin and causing burns, among other damages. It has a wide range of protection since it absorbs both UVB and UVA rays, as well as high water resistance.
Can I use it?
Due to its low irritability, it is suitable for almost all skin types, even sensitive ones. This is why sunscreens for children and babies use this component.
How is titanium dioxide (NANO) different?
Titanium dioxide nanoparticles eliminate the whitish effect that sunscreen leaves when applied to the skin. For this reason, the use of this component in sun protection is very common, since the nanoparticles aesthetically improve the cream.
The CSSC has approved the use of titanium dioxide in the nanoparticle state in sunscreens since 2014, in concentrations less than 25%. This ingredient has been found to be safe when used in this way.
