What exactly?

This chemical sunscreen ingredient is found in a wide variety of cosmetic and personal care products - including sunscreens and anti-aging skin care creams. It is used not only for its own ability to protect the skin from UVA and UVB rays, but also for its ability to Further increase the stability and effectiveness of other chemical sunscreen ingredients . Being a chemical filter, its protective capacity begins to work when this ingredient is absorbed by the skin.  

How does it act?

Octocrylene offers protection against longer UVA rays (those responsible for signs of aging) and shorter UVB rays (those responsible for burns). Still, it doesn't provide enough protection on its own, so it's combined with other ingredients.  

What benefits does it provide?

The strong point of this filter is that it guarantees the stability and effectiveness of other chemical sunscreen ingredients. It is also quite photostable , since it only loses 10% of its SPF protection after 95 minutes.  

It is worth mentioning that some manufacturers removed this ingredient from their sunscreens due to its impact on marine flora. Anyway, it's not too harmful to the environment.
