CONSULT PROPERTIES DICTIONARY

1. What is rosehip oil?

It is a vegetable oil that is extracted from the fruit of the rosehip bush. The rosehip comes from the Rosaceae family, made up of 122 genera and 3,400 species. The best known and most used species in cosmetics are Rubiginosa, Canina and Moschata, which are grown mainly in Central Europe and also in Africa, India and Chile.

Rosehip oil stands out for its content of essential fatty acids , the famous omega 3 (linolenic) and omega 6 (linoleic)*. These fatty acids are essential for both the barrier function of the skin and the body in general and have a fundamental role in the formation of ceramides ( see ceramides ). We must provide them through food, supplementation or cosmetics because the body is not capable of synthesizing them on its own.

The concentration of essential fatty acids will depend on the species of the plant and the extraction process to obtain the vegetable oil. In addition to essential fatty acids, it also contains trans-retinoic acid, vitamin C, tannins and flavonoids.

2. What kind of ingredient is it?

  • Active ingredient, we can find it in numerous cosmetics from cleansers, creams, oils, masks, etc.
  • Excipient , as a base vegetable oil, it can be accompanied by other vegetable oils, plant extracts and essential oils.
  • Excipient and active ingredient at the same time : rosehip oil can also be a cosmetic in itself, we will find it as the only ingredient or it will be accompanied by some tocopherol to keep the oil in good condition, since due to its chemical composition it tends to become rancid. quickly.

3. How do I identify it in the list of ingredients ( INCI ) ?

Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Rosa Rubiginosa Seed Oil, Rosa Moschata Seed Oil.

4. What properties does rosehip oil have?

  • Anti-inflammatory , fights inflammation, especially effective when the skin barrier is weakened.
  • Sebum regulator , helps balance excess sebum.
  • Regenerative , it improves tissue regeneration, and therefore is very interesting for the treatment of scars and to mitigate signs of aging.
  • Antioxidant , provides luminosity and improves general tone.
  • Emollient , softens and keeps skin hydrated.
  • Smoothes the texture of the skin and keeps it soft and smooth.

5. For what type of skin do we recommend this ingredient ?

Due to its wide variety of properties, rosehip has multiple indications:

  • Acne marks.
  • Scars, especially stretch marks when they are red (during pregnancy it is ideal).
  • Irregular texture.
  • Spots and photoaging.
  • Wrinkles and sagging.
  • Dehydrated skin.

How to use rosehip oil:

Whether it is a combination of vegetable oils including rosehip oil or if you use pure rosehip oil, you can incorporate it into your routine as follows:

  • Apply 2-3 drops directly to clean skin (even slightly damp skin) generally on the entire face or on the areas we wish to improve.
  • Mix 2-3 drops with the cream, serum or mask.
  • Apply 2-3 drops at the end of the routine. The ideal way to do this is to first apply the oil to the palms of your hands and apply light pressure all over your face.

6. Contraindications:

  • Allergies
  • Although rosehip oil is not photosensitizing (it does not produce an abnormal reaction on the skin such as itching, redness, marks, stains, etc.), we recommend including it in your nighttime routine.
  • Keep it away from sources of direct heat and sun so that it does not deteriorate prematurely.

7. Frequently asked questions:

If I have oily skin, can I use it?

Yes, in fact it is ideal for improving the texture of the skin, that is, it leaves it smoother and softer. And due to its chemical composition, rich in essential fatty acids, it is absorbed very quickly.

No, but it's not a resounding no. Rosehip oil will not eliminate the spots, however, if you are consistent with its application, you will notice how the spots fade and the general tone of your skin improves noticeably.

If you apply it directly to the face, one drop is enough, and 2 if you also use it on the neck and décolleté. Use the same amount, if you prefer to mix it with your serum, cream or mask.
